OAS donates over $500,000

Three organizations have praised the Organisation of American States (OAS) efforts in assisting Dominicas development endeavours.

At a ceremony held at the OAS Roseau office last Friday, The Dominica State College received computers from the Director of the OAS General Secretariat in Dominica, Ambassador Paul Brown, for an online teacher training programme they are in the process of undertaking under the Multinational OAS Teacher Hemispheric Project. In addition, the Youth Development Division and the Womens Bureau signed agreements and memoranda of understanding for projects proposed by these offices respectively, which the OAS will fund.

With a value of over $500,000, the projects are anticipated to contribute to a concerning void in training among young persons and women. The OAS Teacher Hemispheric Project, for example, is targeted at developing and operating a virtual forum in order to facilitate the sharing of information and the planning and implementation of teacher training courses. Trinidad and Tobago is the lead coordinator for this project in the Caribbean Sub-Region.
